More than 75 young professionals gathered at Harbour Club for a mentoring session with three of Charleston’s top executives. CYP’s leadership delivered this program as a direct result of feedback received from members at our YP 101 events. During this listening session, members provided us a list of questions they’ve always wanted to ask their supervisors but didn’t know how – or lacked the nerve to actually ask them.

Instead of asking their bosses, young professionals took to the Internet and submitted dozens of questions to our panelists prior to Thursday’s event. Our moderator and fellow YP, Meredith Siemens, jumped right in by asking the questions that our members submitted.

Questions included:

  1. How can I build confidence when dealing with executive-level employees?
  2. How can I stick out amongst my coworkers when we all do the same exact job?
  3. What goals can we as young professionals set for ourselves to put us in the best position for leadership opportunities?
  4. What books/resources would you recommend young professional read/use to help us develop into effective leaders?
  5. Is there any advice you can give on when to stay with a company vs moving to a different company to progress in a career?
  6. Understanding that salary negotiating is a taboo topic, what can I do to position myself for a raise?

The event concluded with young professionals receiving a book list containing books that are among our panelists’ favorites. We are happy to share those books with you.
