It’s an exciting time to be a part of this community.

Charleston continues to receive national attention for its beauty and quality of life. As our region continues to grow, we have a responsibility as young professionals to work together across public, private, academic and non-profit sectors to help make Charleston the best that it can be. Through our collaborative efforts, we can guide Charleston down a path that will create unparalleled opportunities for talent in this community.

I am honored to serve as the 2017 Chairman of Charleston Young Professionals. Throughout my five years of involvement, CYP has afforded me countless opportunities to connect and engage with like-minded individuals who are passionate about the place we all call home.

Furthering our mission of Building Community Leaders, we look forward to providing you with additional opportunities to engage within the community.

New opportunities include:

#YPAMA (Ask Me Anything)

CYP has partnered with the Metro Chamber’s Career Academy program to host quarterly panels of young professionals within our region’s high schools to share their professional journeys with students in the hopes of inspiring this generation of future leaders. This is a great opportunity for you to inspire a student by sharing pearls of wisdom that you wish someone would’ve shared with you. Contact us to add your name to our list of available panelists.

Be a Mentor

Another way that we are taking an active role in the education arena is through our renewed partnership with Be a Mentor, a nonprofit organization headquartered in North Charleston, that ensures future generations are adequately prepared for career opportunities in our state. Through involvement with Be A Mentor, young professionals can participate in one of five in-school, one-on-one mentoring programs that connects you with elementary, middle and high school students, allowing them to increase their social, emotional and academic skills. Learn how you can positively impact the life of our region’s future leaders at our upcoming information session.

One Region

CYP is an integral part of One Region Global Competitiveness Strategy, a five-year economic development strategy whose goal is to work collaboratively as a region to further enhance the economy through advancements in talent, infrastructure and other assets characteristic of a globally competitive city. Specifically, our role is to engage regional young professionals in the execution of this strategy. Currently four regional action teams have been formed in the areas of housing affordability, quality of place, talent and global fluency. I urge each of you to consider joining one of these action teams and lend your voice, talent and passion to moving the needle forward in at least one of these areas.

YP Wake Up

In an effort to connect you to the many different business sectors that drive our economy, we have revamped our YP Wake Up series to highlight young professionals who are excelling in different sectors; many of which we may not interact with on a daily basis.

Join us in March as we take you beyond the gate of one of our region’s top economic drivers, Joint Base Charleston, and allow you to hear from millennial servicemen and women who enhance not just our local area but our country.

I look forward to collaborating with you to make 2017 a dynamic year for Charleston Young Professionals.

Let’s continue to show Charleston what we are made of!
