Happy 10th Anniversary to CYP!!

This year is the beginning of a new chapter for Charleston Young Professionals. Ten years ago, CYP was created to address the issue of “brain drain.”  Charleston was loosing young professionals to other cities in search of better jobs and business opportunities.  CYP came together to provide young professionals the professional development skills and business connections they needed to succeed in the Charleston area.  Ten years later, CYP is an organization for over 1,000 young professionals working together to promote and improve each other and our community.

In 2015, we conducted a series of focus groups to learn how was can make 2016 our best year yet.  We learned that our young professionals are looking for quality professional development programing, engaging networking events, and education on regional issues.  We also learned that your employers want CYP to provide you with the tools your need successful within your company, to develop young professionals into emerging leaders.

Not only is 2016 a new chapter for CYP, but a new chapter for the Charleston region.  For the first time in 40 years, the City of Charleston has a new mayor, Mayor John Tecklenburg.  Our region is growing at a rapid pace and industry is booming.  A lot of change is coming to Charleston, and in order to shape the future of our wonderful region, we need young professionals to combine our passions with action and dedication to leave a lasting legacy.  Decisions made today are impacting our daily lives for years to come.  Let’s get involved in the conversation.  This year we promise that CYP will educated you and show you how.

With your engagement and enthusiasm, I know we will make CYP’s 10th year the best year yet! Get involved; find your fit in our organization.  Whether you are looking for professional development, connections, community engagement, or all three, there is a place for you.

Thank you and I look forward to serving as the 2016 CYP Chair,

Lauren Newman
