On Thursday, October 27th, a standing room only crowd gathered at Grand Bohemian Hotel to share advice on how to navigate office politics and gain the confidence needed to actively contribute to their organization.

Here’s a few pointers shared by our panelists:

  1. Take on challenges within your organization.
  2. Take chances. Don’t be afraid to fail.
  3. Never speak a problem without presenting a solution.
  4. Always think like a leader.
  5. Be a sponge. Learn as much as you can from your management team.
  6. Take a break from emails. Personal, face-to-face interactions still matter and often times go a long way for our Baby Boomer and Traditionalist colleagues.
  7. Seek out ways to set yourself apart from your coworkers (i.e. certifications, training, advanced degrees, etc.).
  8. Bring new ideas to your organization (vet them first!), but be okay with them being rejected.
  9. Create a business plan for the things you want to implement.
  10. Rethink the annual review. Use this time an opportunity to speak up. Bring your ideas to the table.
